Anyone here use epoxy resins for their fiberglass layups? Is a a cheapo scale bought at Target good enough to weigh out the materials for the resin?

most of the time you just have to get a marked measuring cup......this will give you the amount you need to know for the right percentage of MEKP.....as for the resin....just use the polyester resin... it is usually less expensive and does what you need it to do

I have some foam that dissolves with poleyster resin (so I discovered by accident). I just wanted to know about the epoxy resin so I don't have to buy a scale.

you can get many types of foam that dont melt with the resin they are mostly a 2 part.... they are urethene foams....you can get them in different pound kits.....just get the 4 pound kit and you will be good.

Yeah, right now I'm using the other resin that doesn't dissolve with the polyester resin. It's just that I had this starter kit, used the wrong resin, and still have some blocks of foam left. Oh well, no biggie.

Owen, The scale at wal-mart will work. epoxy resins are on average 30% stronger than polyester so you can use less glass to get the strength you need (less weight). Don't use graduated cups to mix. You must weigh it out because the resin itself changes volume with temp and humidity but it still weighs the same. Other resins don't do this.
