i can get a custom made 4 slot 12" box for either type rs or xs. or should i get 2 15" kicker L7s. i know kicker is all about BASS and alpine is over all SQ and SPL. but i am not sure what to get.

What do you want to go for spl or bass.
For bass kickers
For spl/SQ alpine.

Make sure the boxes are made for the subs (air place) If need some help with the design or anything let me know.

you know i do not know? my friend has 2 12" L5s and like the bass is different its not as good or deep as round subs..but ppl have differnet views. what do you think?

I say get a demo run setup with a a local dealer who deals with both Alpine and Kicker. Listen to both blindly, meaning you don't know which ones are playing, and go for what you like better. That is how I determined my first system.

I've seen both brands being used for both applications, so it's a matter of install at that point. Do the demo and listen to them and go from there.
