making an automatically actuated compartment

Hello all, I'm not sure if anyone here has any experience on the subject, but I figured it's worth a shot to ask.
I've got a 1971 Volkswagen Bus which I've customized the interior. I've been wanting to add a separate stereo system in the back, which i can run off a second battery. (don't worry, my question isn't about hooking up the stereo)
What I want to do is mount the stereo under the rear jump seat, so It can be completely hidden from view until I want to use it.

I'd like to just be able to press in on the side of the seat and have the radio automatically swivel out in a smooth, fluid motion. Then be able to press it back in so it locks in place. I'm not sure how I'd go about doing that though. Any one got any ideas?

alright, I've been doing some scratch drawings and I think I've figured out how I plan to build it. The only base I don't have covered is the little piston that will make the radio pop out.
I'm thinking of something along the lines of a car-hood piston; only way smaller, and not as powerful. Anyone know where to source such an item?
