Hi!

Basically I have been chatting with a few people about sub boxes, and they have been telling me that I should go for a sealed box. This is because if I use a ported box and the speaker plays a sound below that of which the box is rated at, the speaker will blow. Well... I don't want to go for a ported box any more as it seems like too much hard work. So, does the sealed box need to have a fixed volume for both subs? If the volume is different will it change the tone in any way?

Thanks

Mhiran

the size of the box Will affect the tuning of it. if you build a large sealed box it will play deeper. you cannot run as much power to it because of the lack of "acustic spring" behind it. in a small sealed box it will play a bit more "punchy" and handle more power.
if you are looking for a deep bass you need to go with a vented(ported) box. if you have the port right and box sized correctly it will sound louder and deeper than a sealed box. the only thing i recommend is having and amp with a sub sonic filter on it.
i have always tried to push people into a ported box for the level of output and the ability to tune it more to the listening preference of the listener. they are not any more dificult to build and will give "most" people more of what they want. the vented boxes are slightly more efficient, but take a slightly larger box.

From what I've read.... It takes more power to run a sealed box then it does a ported box.

But other then that he's all correct...

It is kinda hard to get the correct size for the tube for the port... length and diameter... Sometimes the manufacturer has a spec for a sealed and ported box for your use.
