If you have a box already, then why do you want to fiberglass it? Fiberglass is usually used to create curves and other shapes that would be difficult or impossible to duplicate with wood. If you want a nice surface to paint you can fill all the screw heads and other imperfections with bondo and sand them smooth. Then brush on a few coats of resin and sand it smooth before painting.

Resin is great for that because it goes on so thick. Brush on a few coats and the surface should be a little wavy. Start with some 150 grit on an orbital sander untill the surface is smooth and then hit it with some 220 grit before primer. After a few coats of primer sand lightly again with 220, and you will be ready for paint. I sugest an automotive type paint, but spray paint will work if you don't have a spray gun.
