I was talking with a friend about fiberglassing my control console and he said I really dont need any fiberglass mat, all I need it the body filler and resin. Is this true??

Yes, unless you are wanting to change the shape or appearance of the dash, all you need is a flexible primer & paint.

for most of the dash work all you need is ABS plastic,Duraglass(if you have a lot of filling and shaping), Body filler, CA glue, and some poly primer. this will give you the option to add to an area that might have a gap(ABS and CA glue) then if you have to fill it you can use the body filler to smooth it out.
