I am interested in doing a fiberglass mounting surface for my door speakers in my 99 tahoe. The speakers I have won't fit the mounting depth and I can't cut into the door because the window motor is in the way. I have to surface mount my speakers and have abouut .5 to .75 inces of a rise to clear the door. The area I have to cover is about 1 ft. long by 7 in. tall and has a bent in it to fit he contour of the door. I haven't had any other good ideas to cover up this eyesore. I think fiberglass might be the final frontier:)
Fiberglass isn't to hard. Look through some of the other post to find info on how to build kick panels. You can modify this idea to make door panels.

making some wooden mounting rings to bring the speaker out would also work, fiberglass would look alot better, and will take alot of time and effort if you've never worked with it before
log onto www.selectproducts.com and check out the different videos that they have to offer. they have high tech fiberglass I and II, and number II is a "how-to" on making custom kick panels for your car doors. I bought the video and had never touched fiberglass before, and mine turned out great. i made a new pair to fit my new component speakers and they turned out a thousand times better than the first ones and didn't even take me as long. Fiberglass I is on how to build a box for a spare tire well. it's not as good as video II, but gives you some beginner info on starting out with fiberglass.
you can buy all your stuff from select products' website, which is what i'd recommend. their stuff is top quality and great service. order the videos first so you see what products they suggest for your project, write that stuff down, and then buy it off their site.
