What materials do I need to make a fiberglass box for 2 12" Rockford HE's. And where's the best place to get the materials and about how much do they cost?
Thanks

Obviously you need fiberglass mat/resin. I ordered a whole roll of mat from www.shopmaninc.com for about $25 plus shipping. I've found you're better off buying resin at the hardware store (Lowe's is the cheapest for me) than to order it, because after shipping/HAZMAT, you're paying the same amount- roughly $22-$23 a gallon. Yeah you pay slightly more at the store, but it's the convenience of knowing you don't have to wait for more to come in. Get some Latex gloves, cheap brushes, acetone, and mixing pails while you're there. Acetone thins the resin, and you can put some in a pail to keep the brushes from hardening between layers- just be sure to dry them out before use again. You'll need some MDF for your mounting rings, and you can use your scraps to mount them, again from the hardware store (not sure on pricing- I used scrap wood at work for my kicks). You can use hot glue/hot glue gun to mount the rings (a few bucks at Walmart). Also pick up some fabric to stretch over the rings/ the edge of your mold (hot glue the edges) to give the box shape (you'll resin over this, then lay more mat down)- use your imagination on this one. I went to the fabric store and found some bulk cloth on clearance. You want something stretchy in all directions if possible. You'll want to get some filler to fill any depressions in your box and make it smooth- I use fiberglass reinforced for added strength, around $9-$10 for a quart at Walmart. I also bought some sandpaper, high build primer, and some paint at Walmart for less than $10. Be sure to pick up some screws if you haven't already to hold your woofers in place.
The resin you buy is in a gallon and should have two tubes of liquid hardener. What I usually do to keep my proportions right, is pour 16 ounces (1/8 gallon) of resin in a pail, then squirt one quarter of the liquid hardener from one of the tubes. These tubes have lines on the side of them, to guide you. If you hold a tube up-side-down, you'll see it's 22ml when full.
Thanks alot. I am going to start getting the materials when I get somemoney and I'll give it a shot. Thanks alot
