Subject: body filler/resin mixture?

I need help with the body filler/resin "milkshake" mixture...I have read about it a little, but still have some questions:

1) what is the ratio of filler : resin?

2)Why would you use this rather than just pure body filler?

3)Which (and how much) hardener should I use? Cream hardener for filler or MEKP for resin?

4)What is the approximate working time I have before the "milkshake" hardens?

Thanks for everyone's help!

Well with bondo you want to mix it according to your application. If you want it to dry rather quick, you would mix it "hot." If you are trying to cover a large area you might not want to but much hardner in there..

the ratio depends on the thickness required for the job.....i would start with a 50/50 mix.if you want it thicker add more bodyfiller....as for the hardner, i use just MEKP.

the reason for this mixture, is it is more or less self leveling. it will settle in the low spots.

the working time varies on the amount of MEKP and temp outside. i usually mix about a 5 % to the total amount. this gives you about 10 minutes or so before it gels.

and this mixture will fully cure with just MEKP? I am alos in the middle of a fiberglass box and adding body filler would be awesome beings one third the price of resin

it will fully cure............but make sure you dont mix it too hot, or it will crack.

there are also a ton of other additives that you can add to resin to thicken it and get the same results as adding body filler.

sorry, but what exactly is this mixture for again? is it intended to be a stronger outside layer rather than using pure body filler? please explain all the benefits of using this mixture. thanks in advance.

If you are looking for a self leveling spray on product try feather fill.

using this mixture does not really add strength and I would not use it in place of resin if you are still adding fiberglass layers.  It is used mainly to fill in small holes quicker and easier then body filler alone.  I use a 50/50 mix with both hardners in the amounts that are recommended.
