Polyester resin + 2k primer

Can I put 2k (catylized) primer over top polyester laminating resin (air-inhibited, always tacky)? Will this seal the resin enough to allow a full cure so I can sand it? What about lacquer primer? Would I get any better/worse adhesion if I put the primer over uncured resin and let them cure together?

you will want to make sure the resin is fully cured before you use any kind of primer on it. i recommend you use a polyester primer on it. it is more filling than the 2K filler primer. it sands very easy. more than likely if you prime over the uncured resin it will have more pinholes than normal due to the curing process and heat of the resin.

you can get polyester primer at any autobody material supplier.....NAPA, finishmasters, painter's supply, and many others. almost ever paint manufacturer sells polyester primer.

look at the hardener....if it is MEKP..it will work

there are different types that work better than others, and some that don't stick to plastics as well.
but it all depends on what you are using it for

I was going to get some polyester primer but I figured I'd do a test of my own anyway. I crosshatched both primers with an xacto blade and pressed tape over it. It pulled up almost all the lacquer, but after scraping the tape really hard to get it to stick more it never pulled up the 2k at all. So, catylized urethane primer over resin gets pretty damn good adhesion.

i was looking for something that would stick to plastic. Ill take a look at the  NAPA right up the road. thanks man

the omni lv and the sherwin williams ultra fill stick well to plastic if the plastic is roughed with 80 grit or less
