Hi All,

I'm currently designing a new system for my new Civic.  I'm going to run a mid-bass in the factory door locations and was planning on using sound deadening on the inner panel of the door and sealing all the access holes with coroplast convered in sound deadener.  I recently read that sealing your door panels like this can cause some serious problems with water intrusion and drainage.  Is this the case?  I live in Seattle and my car is always parked outside, so it sees lots of rain...  If this is the case, what can I do to deaden my doors AND prevent backwave cancellation on my mid-bass?  Thanks for any info, insight and experience.

Dave

ya i heard about that too..... i was in the same boat as you.... you can get rid of the canelation by using baffles..... or even little MDF boxes for you speakers..... treat them like a small pair of subs....     You can get the baffles from any car audio distributor..... just play with them till you get the right airspace then pop them out and glass the back of them, then they'll be rigid.... this makes for great, sealed, non resonating sound.   Then just dynamat the inner door panel as usual.

don't completely seal your doors.  there should be holes on the bottom edge that allow water to escape from the inside.  car doors are nowhere near waterproof, and are designed accordingly.  good luck on your project!

i went through the car wash one day with my passenger door skin off, (in a civic) I was horrified at the amount of water pouring through my door. you should try it, i think most cars are like that
