I have started my very own custom fiberglass enclouser today useing the info I gathered from this awesome forum. I need a little info though. This is going to be a single 12" sub for a Alpine Type R sub. This sub is very powerful and large. I have already layered 4 layers of glass to a piece of MDF for the rear of the box. I will start front soon. My question is for this sub is 4 layers enough or do I have to go more? I seen any where from 4 to 6. It is only 1 12" sub and an amp to will to about 200 to 300 watts. Also I have a few air pockets between layers. Not to many but their there. I know there is nothing I can do now, but is this weaking my box and is there away to make it stronger. I'd say 4-6 layers for a Type R, those are suppose to hit pretty hard. Besides, its better to have over kill with fiberglass than to have your box fall apart on you. As for the air bubbles, if its just in one layer and theres not to many of them I wouldn't worry about it. Just try to make sure you dont get any in an overlapping patter, it will make the layers thin and compramise the strenght of the box.
Looks really nice! I like the custom look of a side stealth box.

For the thickness of the box, I layer my enclosures where there is no MDF bracing to about 1/4 - 3/8 ". Where there is MDF I usually go about 4 layers. As far as the air bubbles in the fiberglass, you should sand those out with 40-60 grit sand paper and re-apply fiberglass in those spots. These air pockets will not only weaken the enclosure, but it will also make bulges in the enclosure that you don't want there in the finished product.

LOL , The fleece was on sale. The only ford I like is the stang. Other then that I would not own a Ford again.
