hey i have a 2000 ford escort zx2 and am looking to change the color of some of the interior door panels dash panels etc. i was just wondering if there was some sort of paint technique or vinyl that should be used. Just looking for a place to start. Ne thing would be appreciated thanx
From what I've read on these posts, here is what many ppl do.
1. Sand and clean the plastic to rought it up and clean off grease and anything that would prevent something from sticking to the plastic.
2. Spray an adhesion promoter like Bulldog onto the plastic.
3. Spray a high build primer onto the plastic and then sand that as smooth as you can.
4. Once it's perfect, spray the paint. I'm not sure if people sand or wetsand that if there's any imperfections.
5. Spray clear boat and possibly sand or wet sand that and buff it.
Many people on here just glass the door and dash instead of painting the plastic. I don't know what is better or easier because I haven't done either. But I'm about to glass my doors and dash. Be patient and make a plan. Also, read as many posts on here as you can because there is a lot of good advice from people who are not newbs like me.

^^^pretty much covered it. but even if you fiberglass the panels, you still have to paint. if youve ever seen fiberglass, youll know its ugly sh!t by itself. but also, just to clarify, when you sand id start off with 100 grit, then 400 or so. then spray youre primer/adhesive promoter (you dont HAVE to use the promoter, but i recommend it for plastic type materials). then sand that down with some 660 and work your way up to 1000 or so. if you want it REALLY smooth, you can go all the way to wetsanding with 2000+. then paint, then clear coat. if the paint isnt totally smooth you can sand it really lightly with 1500+ and it should smooth it out. then repeat with paint and clear coat.
