anyone know the best way to bond plaxi to mdf? doing a whole face of a box with plexi. was thinkin of just insetting it like most windows on bandpass boxes, also does glass/mirrors in the box have any acoustical downfalls?? and what thickness plexi is comparable to 3/4 mdf, i was thinking at least 1/2 or 3/4

There is no downfall if it is thick enough but plexiglass is very expensive. I would use some kinda of seal around the MDF and then screw it on.

dream it, build it, fiberglass it

Hmmm....that's a tough problem. Plexiglass likes to crack, actually it loves to crack.posted_image Should you decide to go that route you would use Polycarbonate sheet, not acrillic (Plexiglass). You would need to provide a gaskit material, Phenolic, where the PC meets the MDF. I would say that 5/8 to 3/4 inch Polycarb would be required. I would then set the hole spacing, 1/4" holes, at arround 2.5" apart. The MDF holes will be passthrough. Then drill and tap the Polycarb, using a setup for a NC 1/4" bolt. A 1/8" X 3/4" stainless steele, load distribution, strip beween the bolt and MDF would be ideal, if not then use washers.

An easier way, and much more cost efective way, to do things might be to drill a " port hole " in the MDF, then use the above method to secure the Polycarb to the outside.
BTW, don't forget the locktight.posted_image

Best of luck.
