Wow, the install pictures on the alpine website of their demo cars are awesome. www.alpine1.com then got to support, and demo cars. They really helped me to get some ideas for my install. Does anyone know what kind of grille cloth they use, or how they secure all those pieces? I figured they just screw them down, but you can't see any of them anywhere. Really cool stuff.

Yeah the cloth looks tacked down in a very strange way.... and... I' guess I don't really know what grille cloth is... is that what is usually used on those premade subwoofer enclosures?

It's done with a staple gun similar to the ones used in making cabinets and such. I was really surprised to see how they actually do it, because it's really similar to finish carpentry. Except you use fiberglass and cloth instead of wood to skin it. I think its just regular grill cloth, but I wanted to see if someone knew for sure.

yeah i looked over their project cars about a week ago and man! keeps me motivated to mod my car. except not that much mods...

well anyway they covered the screw holes by putting on "inserts". pretty much taped off the area with screw holes, and applied what looks like a thin fiberglass area. Look on page 19 in the Mini Demo under Installation. 7th picture in.

but yes, the steps they provide are very detailed and explain a lot of things. i've learned a lot looking through.

Grill cloth is that really thin stretchy stuff on the front of a home speaker that is used to protect the speaker.

they use a combination of super glue and staples to secure the grille cloth

i use super glue and it works good.

Err... is that still a " BMW "? I was just wondering.... at what point does it make more sense to start from scratch with a custom frame, engine, ect.?

I would think that a completely custom car, from the frame up, would give the designers/builders even greater freedom to create. Don't get me wrong the work is damn amazing, but in a " man hours " sense it seems that same energy directed toward a completly custom car may produce even greater/more creative results.

Of course I may have completly missed the pointe, it happens all the time. posted_image

the only thing i disagree with that alpine does is they fill it on the top. dont get me wrong, it is just as strong as anyother way, it is just more work sanding.
