I started building my fiberglass speaker box in my trunk. The first layers of mat went down fine. After they dried i put the fleece over and saturated that with resin. The problem i am facing is that i did not stretch the fleece over the enclosure very well because after the fleece hardened i have some gaps between the fleece and the fiberglass bottom. how can i fix that and is that going to mess up my sound. I want to make my box air proof so no air can escape. also the side of the fiberglass bottom does not touch the cured fleece is that a problem that can be fixed.

were you using fleece for structural reasons?.... or were you just substituing it for mat?..... if so that's not a great plan.. will offer you nothing but build

Cut up some fiberglass mat into small pieces and mix it into a cup of resin. Mix it up to create a slurry that you can push into the gap.
-OR-
Cut strips of mat and dip them into the resin cup. Then press them into the gap.
-OR-
Get some talc, fumed silica or pre-chopped fiberglass fibers and mix them into resin until it's thick. Then press that into the gap.
Many ways to handle that.

IT sounds like you did the process backwards. the fleece goes first..then the mat. I think you tried to stretch the mat over the box or something..then piece in the fleece (rhymed
). hard to give advice without seeing pictures..but i would say it would be easier to scrap it and start over. Post a pic if you can.

If you have a gap inbetween you will definately get a crappy rattle at some frequencies of bass. I did that with the first box I made and it drove me nuts!

I placed the fleece down first. my only problem is that the fleece does not connect to the fiberglass bottom. So if I were to pour water in the box then all the water would come out the bottom outer edges. I have pictures but i dont know how to post them. to defective i used the fleece for structual purposes only.
