actually, when I get people who want something like that I usually use a thin wood and draw out the pattern and cut it with a jig and router. The reson I use a thin (like 1/4 an inch, 1/2" at most) is that its much sterdyer than any foam is going to be and you can mount it as a separate piece. Anyway, thats my method.

another idea you could use is lacing cord. you know the parachute cord with the smaller cords inside? you can make a design with that and maybe staple it to the box. then you could have a hollow design

Sheets of sound deadener work well too. Easy to cut and they hold up well.

All those ideas are awsome however that lacing cord interests me where can I buy this cord and what exactly is it.

ummm, you can go to a military surplus store, or you can go to https://www.cheaperthandirt.com , and do a search for cord... or, depending on where you live, i might be able to send you some...

and thanks for the support guys.posted_image

the cord itself is just nylon, woven into cords..... it's very strong, that's why they use it for parachutes

I bet you could use cardboard or the thin foam sheets that you use for school projects and then just apply a little resin to them. That would be easy to cut and get just right.

vdub, the resin will ruin the cardboard, but you can use it as a stencil to get the basic shape, aslo, when you put the carpet on, the cardboard would most likely get crushed in the process..... and as far as foam goes, it is hard to work with, and not very surdy... in order to see a design through carpet, you need to have two thing just right. first, you need something that can take the pressure from the carpet being applied to it, and second, you need to be able to work the carpet around the design.. but you did have a great idea, there is just easier ways of doing it.

josh, you better not try any of your flocking with my cord idea without posting pics, flocker!!!!!!  posted_image

oh god, here we go with the flocking jokes. Alright people, this is flocking played out so quit flockin around with this flocking flock jokes u flock'n flockers!!! Oh, and I like that idea about the cord stuff. My question would be what would you use to hold the cord down w/o it being promenate (like a nail/staple poking upwards or not being able to make a good curve) and looking tacky? This seems like a plauseable idea that might be more economic than using wood or foam.

yeah you can fasten it with small nails without being able to see them.... you could use very VERY small nails, like like kind with the small head. anywho, you can make the nail head go through to the inside of the cord, thus, hiding it..... or you could resin it, and remove the nails.........its up to you guys
