is it possible for me to apply fiberglass resin directly to the stock door panels? They are a really thick and durable cloth (feels kinda like denim), it is a 95 ford escort 2dr. I want to fiberglass them and then sand and paint them but was wondering if it was possible to do this without having to use the actual cloth or mat. Thanks in advance, John

yes it is possible. Dont just use resin. Use resin at first then some matte.

just a little note as this was used successfully to anchor down a set of panels I did on a buick, but if u use some small flat head screws and screw them into the panel, ~4 should be enough depending on the size of the actual panel, the fiberglass will bond to these screws (fiberglass bonds exceptionally well to metal) and make for a more secure hold with the fiberglass.

Do i have to use fiberglass or can i just put the resin on the factory cloth, sand it and then paint it?

you'll probably want to use a layer of actual fiberglass. I tryed the 'just use resin' method when I first started making stuff. It works but stuff starts cracking and if it gets hit by something on accendent or w/e you'll be patching and refinishing it as it will crack. So I'd say, resin it (put some screws in if u want, it was just an idea of mine ), let that dry, sand it down, then get some fiberglass cloth, cut a peice to fit the panel and then lay it down as smooth as possible and then sand it down, bondo it smooth, sand some more and primer and finish. ------------- "Shiny chrome when used in conjunction with bikini models is particularly effective in inducing brain deficit disorder"
