hi this is the first time posting here and i had a few questions about flocking.....i did a search and couldnt find exactly what i was looking for.....basically im looking at flocking my dash, headliner, sub box, and possibly part of my door panels......but i will only do this if it actually feels like a suede/microfiber material when its cured.....ive heard that it feels almost more fuzzy than actuall suede......is this true??also how much would the small 3 oz bags from select products cover....i work at cc so i get the awesome "dealer price" lol.....also would there be any other places that i could buy it in more bulk at a better price than s.p. ...thanks for any input and thanks for putting together this great website for it has helped me tons with mine and others cars....

it feels more like a cadillac glove box. it can only be applied so thick. it is 2 parts glue and the flock.

it is great for filling areas that can't be upholstred but have to have a finished look.

it would take a lot of product to do all that you have listed.

look at this site. it is where fish and select buy the flock from.....

hey... sorry i missed this one... but, im here now.

Ok flocking is actually softer.... and isnt affected by brushing one way......(you know how you draw pictures in suede or nubuck)

They use it on BMW gloveboxes aswell.     It is a very cheap and easy process for a million dollar result. i would buy 3 bags i your doing all that. I dont even want to know how your gonna do the headliner, thats gonna be messy.

If you have any other flocking questions, speak the flock up.

thanks for the help guys......defective i plan to let the headliner soak up some resin and then apply the glue and flock to it.....so do you think using that much flock would look good or would i be better off just using suede and vinyl??thanks again guys

You should try to take the headliner out, otherwise, it would be quite difficult.

You do not want to use resin (if you are speaking of the fiberglass type) with this unless you have already applied fiberglass to the headliner and want to flock over it. But if you glass your headliner (careful of the drips), it will make it impossible to take the headliner out.

What do you think, defective??

Good luck.

Maybe I am not quite following you.

haha yea i planned on taking the headliner out before i put the resin on it....why would i need to put the fiberglass mat on it.....cant i just let the fabric soak up the resin then put the glue on it???if not let me know.....also i have a 2003 cavalier(if it matters) and would the headliner be able to support the weight of the resin(and mat if needed) along with the flock or would i need to make some sort of support....i have a sunroof so im not sure if that would affect it or not??thanks again

If you decide to glass the headliner it must be done inside the car. In order to get the headliner in and out you must bend the headliner to get it to fit through the door, and if it is solid/glassed then you will not be able to get it back in. If you do it outside of the vehicle then you may be able to get it back in the car if you pull the windshield out. What you could do is just remove the cloth material and flock the cardboard part, or go with your other idea of using suede.

This is getting flocking out of hand. Oh, no here we go again.

It was mentioned, but not as bluntly as I put it. Trunk definately wont work to get it back in.

damn....well i guess suede is really the only way to go cuz i had hard enough time talking my parents into letting me do all this and their gunna sh*t when they come out and my windshield is off and im taking my headliner out through it.....so if i just wrap it in suede can i just spray some 3m spray glue on the cloth headliner and then wrap the suede tight and staple on the other side or should i take the cloth thats on it off first......also this wont way it down to where it is going to sag or anything...hate to be driving down the road and have my headliner fall on me....lol

You want to remove the cloth and padding, get down to just the cardboard. Then spray both the suede and headliner with the glue, I think 3M super 90 is the best, and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Get a friend and lay the suede on the headliner slowly making sure not to get any wrinkles or bumps in it. Then press or roll the suede to the headliner to make sure the glue adheres.

yo, Beware..... nothing 3M makes will hold that hardliner together..... unless you want some 'chrysler' sag.  What you need is a commercial adhesive called helmiprene. It's made by helmitin. This stuff will stick your head to your ass and never come off (use as directed). It turns into rubber when dry..... it's the stuff they use to bond your shoe rubber to the nubuck or suede.

"HELMIPRENE 8130-6 was developed to laminate vinyl materials to automobile roof tops."

The suede really is the right way.... it would be nearly imposible to flock it in there.     Theres always the option of taking it out, flocking it, then putting back in...  you would have to apply the flock to the cardboard bare to make it stick. And the adhesive is oil based and should be able to handle bending it back in.

Have any questions, ASK
