I'd say it's looking pretty good. Next comes the wild world of sanding and filling. Pretty soon the specialty shops will be trying to woo you away from Best Buy.

One thing I'd mention is to use more staples or use a "plug" in concave areas. This will make your cloth lay flatter and will help minimize finishing work.

WOW, thats gona be a bitch to sand. CAH is right about using the plugs, it saves time and head ache when it comes time to sand. Anyway, forgot to complement you, that is still a sweet looking box. What are u putting into it as far as amps and subs go?

Looking good, could you guys explain these "plugs" as you call them, and what they do? I'm still learning even though I've used FG many times.

Looks great so far. Do not forget to test fit it int the vehicle before you get to far. you dont want to have a finished box you cant fit in a trunk.. unless its an suv then no worries.  By the way is it your personal set up or for a best buy customer?

Plugs are just that, a plug. You basically cut a second piece of MDF exactly the same size as the ones on the box. For instance, ur making a subwoofer ring, make a solid piece the same size as the outside of the ring. Once the ring is mounted lay the fleece over this, then using predrilled holes screw down the top piece(or pieces if u have multiple holes or racks but make sure to strech the fleece between each of them). Then screech the crap out of the fleece. What this will do is give you a flatter surface around the rings/racks that makes sanding and finishing alot easier than trying to gut and fill those staple crimples.

I would charge $300 easy, because probably about half of that would go to materials alone then you still need a little for your work. It would depend on what you were  doing.

Hu???  Thats a large enclose. I would charge $300 for a standard MDF tripple 12 enclosure.  Thats a fiberglass enclosure.  1 day for building it.  2 days for sanding.  Maybe  $1000 -$1500.  Its not so much the materials that cost, its the time that gets expensive.

ctravis is right.  if time's not an issue you could charge less.  from my POV that would mean more possible customers would be attracted to you (assuming you do a decent job).  i know that if there were two guys that did the same quality of work but one for lesser price i would go for him.  but then again... all that sanding's a b*%$@!!!

I do this stuff on the side so I dont know what industry costs are, but I would probably charge around $200 for that if its increw (my car group is the only peeps that get a discount unless I'm tryin to get something off whoever I'm doing it for) otherwise if its just some joe smoe off the street he's gona put out like 4 or 5 hundo for it. Cuz a box like that would probably cost about $80 in materals and take about 15-20 man hours of labor (most of that sanding, primering and sanding, and bondoing, and sanding, and yeah u know. So the principal cost of FG is labor cuz its very tedious work.

Charge no less than you're willing to take and no more than they're willing to spend.

A lot of cost comes in the finish (vinyl, paint, etc.). Paint costs the most because it's expensive and difficult to work with. Vinyl is next for basically the same reasons. In the enclosure's current state you won't get much for it. After you've got it finished you can start getting estimates of the retail value. Otherwise there's no way to accurately say.

Does your GM or DM know you are doing this at the store?  I got in trouble for glassing a box in the bay at my BBY store.  My DM happened to walk in, and rip me a new one...  Just giving you a heads up... Don't get caught!

I have done something like that before and we charged 1200 for it. Customer was satisfied with the price and so was I. BTW the materials that went into the box were around 160 but I think we built it up like 5 or 6 times, it was a while ago so I dont remember and the customer has since moved to Ottawa so I dont even know if he still has it. But That box is looking good, I didnt see if you said what you are using to finish it, also what kinda vehicle is this going into.

The box looks awsome, but 1 question hoiw did you figure out your air space in it

Posted By: rknj01
Date Posted: October 18, 2004 at 1:42 AM
for the airspace i figured it out like it was a square and the made up for what i lost.( if it was shorter, i made it deeper.) plus i can always use plyfill if its too small or put something inside if its too big. the sub specs gave me a range in airspace. im pretty sure i fell somewhere in the middle.
