Here is what my setup looks like. I want to build a nice looking system. im opened for anything. eitehr its a big enclosed fiberglass system or a nice plexiglass seal. up for anything!!

First off:
What is the make and model (something like a Grand Cherokee)? Are you partial to your spare tire (AAA or roadside assistance may help if you get rid of it)? Would you ever need to take the box out?

Secondly:
What is your experience level? Have you ever worked with fiberglass?

And a few more questions: How much width do you have available in the trunk area? How much of the trunk are you willing to sacrifice? How tall could the box be without surpassing the rear seats?

Suggestion: Any easy approach would be to make a wedge type enclosure (all of MDF), and install the amps and DB on the top in a recessed cavity so they sit 'inside' the box. Depending on the ft3 you need for the subs, the box could be fairly small, but the top would need to be deep enough for the amps to sit. This is only one of hundreds of options you have. I hope other people respond, too. I can come up with tons of other ideas, just depends on how deep you want to go (Time and $).

92 jeep cherokee laredo.... I have AAA but I would like to keep the spare tire there if at all possible. I would like to make the whole thing move able but its not a must. IF its like 2-4 hundred dollars more to make it custom (never could be taken out job) then I dont want it but if its gunna be like 1-2 hundred dollars more just to custom fit it ill go for it. But overall if i could make it so i can transfer it but thats only get another suv which is most likely but not definate not at all.

My experience level....None, nothing, gunna work with a few friends and just learn..read most of the articles and how-to videos and are ready to go for it. I would love to get some help by a professional and show me how to do it but in NYC I have nobody that i kno. Im willing to sacrifice as much as i need to make it look nice..could use it all.. could use 1/8 I;m totally up for anything and don't need the trunk room that badly. Time and money isn't really a big deal but Im only going for about $100-300tops!

First define your definition of a "good system". A "good sub" can run $400 easy. And an amp can run like $600. You need to define what exactly you're lookin for more. I would say you can build a decent system for around $700. That's like one 10" sub and a good amp (the base for a nice system), and material cost (fiberglass). And also remember time. Let me know what you're thinking. Because me (and all the other guys here) can give you the system of their dreams, or one that they can live with.

Do you have the equipment already? If you plan on transferring the equipment to another vehicle, toss the idea of custom (that is why they call it custom):)!
You can build a great looking box of MDF for about $40 for materials (a little high for me, but you are in NYC). That only includes the wood, screws, glue and caulk -- carpet will be a little more.

What type of tools do you have? A cube box would be much easier to build, but a wedge type will help cancel reflections on the back of the box. But can do you have a tool that can cut an angle other than 90'?

If you want to go a little crazy, you can spend about $75-100 in fiberglass weave and a few gallons of fiberglass resin. Make the box completely out of the MDF, then cover it will a thin layer of resin. Then you can bondo, fill and sand it for a clean, smooth look. This step will take some serious time, though.

Just starting with an MDF box is a great idea, though. You can build it up, and then decide how to cover it later.

Here is the first thing that came to mind. Think of the subwoofer enclosure separate, with another box (with no lid [yet]) on top. The amps would sit recessed. It would be easy to remove, and can be smaller (to the specs of those Kickers), but still have a custom look. (Sorry for the crude drawing -- but I am exremely busy!) Kinda simple, but that is the idea. You could always buy a wedge style, and add to it, and learn how to glass or carpet it on your own after the tray is added.

Also, how do you plan on wiring the subs? You can save a little space in the box design if needed if the subs are wired in mono. If they are in mono, then you don't need separate chambers for each woofer.

I got the subs and amp any everything to answer boxmaker's question. I dont need to buy any more equiptment/electronic. just need to make an enclosement might now and Make it look nice. NOt hearing nice Physically nice looking.

Yeah they are mono 1 ohm. I like the drawing.. like that whole idea. Got all the tools and screws. just need the materials. and some good instructions.

Fiberglass isn't extremely hard to learn how to do. It's something that takes experience to get better. I would do a mdf and fg combo. Make the back and sides out of mdf and then the front and top out of fg. This type of setup would be amazing. I'm about to start working on one myself. This guy's got a good page setup to show how to practice and then how to do a more advanced project. https://web.njit.edu/~cas1383/proj/main/ Try this and see if you're up to it. If not then dxav has a good idea of using mdf and then putting resin over it and giving it a really nice finish. I did this with an older box of mine and it was a shiny glassy black finish. Looked good with the pearl finish on the infinity subs. But yeah look into fg and make you're decision on that. What kind of subs and how many do you have? What are the specs for box volume for them? Let me know and I might be able to draw something up for you. (or is the L7 and amps your system?)

yeah the L7's are mine. i got 2 10's (L704) pushed by a 1200.1 kicker amp painted red and also i got infinitys in the interior pushed by a phoenix digital 1000.4 amp. the box is a sealed custom box.

Hey DXAV, i decided to sell my L7's so im not limited to 10 inch square subs. Im geting ideas one waht to do either it would be 12' 15 or 18's I got plent of room.. I want to make it look nice. so when i decide what and how many subs would look best then i will give it a go.
