I just started laying my first layer last night and I ended up cutting the mat into little pieces to lay it on the box and put resin on it like 2"x4" and stuff, so my question do you guys just put one big massive piece on there that covers like most of the box or do you do it in little sections like this?  Which way is best?

Depends.  If you're putting down pieces then don't cut it tear it. Tearing it allows the mat's edges to blend better w/ the surface.

Thats a good idea. So can you lay it in big massive pieces and it still conform to the shape and curves of the box or should you tear it into pieces?

I've always seen mat torn up and the put down but i don't see why you couldn't lay it down in one big piece if you have a large flat are or a big smooth curve.  As long as it forms to the curve/flat area then you shoud be ok.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I usually shred up both large and small pieces.  I use the smaller pieces on curves, and the larger pieces on the bigger flatter areas.  On my 1st box, I was using a lot of small pieces and I just found it to be more time consuming than anything.  You will get the hang of it and soon enough you will develop your own little ways that will eventually become more efficient.  posted_image
