Alright guys a quick question for you ive been looking for help on this but couldnt find it so, here it is.    Im done glassing on my sub box and im now sanding but I have the excess fleece where I pulled it down and stapled it thats got resin on it also excess glass thats folded over also.  This is my question should I cut off the excess all the way up to where the glass and mdf meet or should I leave some hanging over?                        I'm scared if I cut it it will come off when the speakers hit please let me know if my fear is true or not at all.      thanks.

Do you have a pic you can post? I don't want to give advice on what I think you mean.

I would cut just to the edge.  I would make sure that you're fleece is soaked w/ the resin and through to the mdf.  If so then you should be fine.  Don't cut to the edge, leave a small overhang of fleece/resin.  You could mix up another batch of resin and line those edges on the inside of the box with that to be safe.

Yeah, I agree with boxmaker. True on CarAudioHelp's post, though; a pic would help.

But the fiberglass resin will bond great to the MDF. Cut ALMOST all the way to the edge, then sand down to where the MDF and fiberglassed material meet. Then you can always fill in with a small amount of hot resin for an extra bit of security. You may even notice a spot that lifted off the MDF that would have been an air leak.

Good Luck,
DXAV

I had the exact same question as realitycheck, I am glad it got answered :)

I had a lot of extra fleece soaked in resin that was hanging over :)

I always had that fear of leaving too much excess fleece hanging off the edges.  Just make sure you saturate the areas where the fleece meets the MDF, the resin will soak through the fleece and bond itself to the mdf.  You can then trim off the excess fleece by leaving 1/8" ove the edge, or if you're really good and you want an even cleaner look, trim as close as possible at the seem where the fleece finishes at the end of the MDF.  Good luck!!  posted_image

I would put a layer of glass  inside the box around all the corners, that way you can be certain it will hold.

I'm thinking about putting a good coating of duraglas around all the edges of it. What do you guys think, will this help?

I say glass the inner seam real good and cut the overhang level with the edge.

So do you think the duraglas wont work?

If you look at alpines website they use superglue and duraglas to hold their boxes together with.   But if you guys tell me it wont work then ill glass it.

Just please let me know again.

Oh also should I take the dowels holding the speaker rings out or just leave them in there?

I hot glued them into place.

I took the dowels out, now that the fiberglass has it in place you don't need them.

Where can you get duraglass? I did my sisters box with some weak 8's and only used 3 - 4 layers and the box flex's a little bit, but she is happy with the end result. I am also wondering what do you guys cover the enclosures with?

Like carpet wise, where do I get carpet covering stuff, I don't know of any shops in my area. Could I go to like tweeters or car toys to get some enclosure covering?

I think we are the only active people that are playing around :P

I am going to drive down the local marine shop today and get 2 gallons of fiberglass and then I am going to start my project on my car.

I didn't like the fabric I got for my sisters box and I am gonig to go get some carpet. I think it will look a lot better. THe box looks kind of ugly and I will try and get some pictures of it later today.

My DSL service is down right now and I have to wait for new modems to come into the mail. Then I have to wait for them to turn my service on.
