So Im going to make a replica of the existing spoiler on my car out of fiberglass but first i need a mold.

How would i go about making a mold of the spoiler without damaging the paint and what not on the spoiler?

Thanks,

May I ask why you want to make a replica of the factory spoiler? It looks fine in the picture. Unless you are just trying to find out how to make a mold. But anyways good luck on the project post some pics of how it is going.

This is just my opinion I could be completely wrong, but I say get you some mdf.  Make a rectangle box that the spoiler can fit in.  Get a whole whole whole whole bunch of modeling clay fill the box up halfway with it.  Spray a bunch of releasing agent on the spoiler, press the spoiler halfway down into it. Let that harden then spray the other side of the spoiler down with release agent and the clay also while leaving the spoiler in there. Take and put more clay on top of that So that you get a mold of the bottom now, Let that harden then pull it apart pull the spoiler out and you have a mold of both sides.  Then you can create both top and bottom of the spoiler with fiberglass and then put them together with some glass. And boom you're done.    Like I said I could be completely wrong on my idea but in my head it would work.  Any one else?

This is how alpine prepares the surface to make a mold. 1. Cover entire area with 3m green masking tape, make sure to overlap and not miss any areas. 2. spray adhesive onto masking tape and cover with aluminum foil. Now you are ready to make the mold out of fiberglass. Also due to the shape of the spoiler you will need to make a 2 part mold with the part line coming off of the rear leading edge. This process should not harm your paint, but it could. Last, if you have not worked with fiberglass than you should probably try a much smaller project for experience before hand. I will also suggest finding a used spoiler from a wrecking yard to use just in case damage does occur, your car looks very nice and wouldn't mess with.

By the way, Alpine covers all of their cars on their web site.
