Subject: Filling a gap

Need a little help. Need to fill a gap around my dvd player, but don't know what to use. From what i read, bondo will not stay. It is quit a big gap, what would you fill it with? I want to smooth out the recess an make it a smooth surface.

I agree. Try to find another place to mount. I know it sucks, cuz you've probably thought it'd look pretty sweet there, but unless you can secure that a bit better, change ur plan man.

I agree with the rest of the crew, maybe you should find an alternative location for the player, but leave the screen in that location.
If you must continue, here is what you need to do:
1. Find some plastic dash kit pieces, with some flat long sides.
2. Remove the components from their plastic housings.
You are going to need to cut and form these plastic pieces to fit the original portion of the dash and join it with the plastic housings of the 2 units.
3. Using Duramix 40/40 (or another 2 part plastic adhesive), you are going to bond the pieces all together. Follow the directions, use plastic weld generously, you can always sand the portions down.
4. Then you can use Duramix 40/58 as the filler paste and create the desired shape.
5. Sand with 80 grit.
6. Spray with Sems texture coat the same color as your dash for a professional look.
Of course, as I write this, I know it is an easy project. But for someone with hardly any experience, it will be time consuming and maybe more difficult.
You are right about the bondo, it will not permanently stick.
Keep up the good ideas, and plan accordingly!

Thats definately an advanced project, looks to me like you will have to cut up that dash piece till everything can fit in straight, then make some frames for the cd player and screen to fit snugly into, , then wrap it in fleece and fiberglass it. Do some research on fiberglassing, , theres some tutorials mentiond in this section of the forum you should check out. Take your time, don't rush it.
