Hey. I know many people have seen it done before. You know, having a lisence plate mounted into a tailgate. I wante dto do this myself, but I dont have the tools to do any welding. I was thinking maybe if I cut out the rectangle for the new plate mount, then just glassed the new mount into the hole, it should hold. Or even glassing on the backside, then filling the gaps with duraglass maybe? Help me out!

This is what I'm goin for, but I dont know how...

you need to weld it or at least use the new panel adhesive, the stress will crack the glass, is there a body shop near you that may be willing to just do the welding (or a body man who wants some side work?)

I thought that glass held well to metal? Why wouldn't it work? By stress, do you mean just stress from expansion and contraction of the metal tailgate during summer? Also, what is that adhesive called? I dont know anyone who welds.

if you go to am mini truck parts site like AIm or god father customs, you can buy a metal kit ( metal box) all ya need to do is cut the tail gate and weld it in. the other option like they said above is to use 3M panel bonding adhesive. just go to an auto body supplier and as fo it.

Hey what about your local high school or college around you. Most of them have welding classes its worth a shot. Going up there and asking if he would mind them getting a little practice in and welding something like that. Also they usually have auto tech so some of them will have body classes and they might do it.  Hey its worth a shot the worse they can do is tell you no!
