Im about to start a huge project redoing my entire interior on my 97 eclipse. Im going to make the interior black blue and silver. Im not sure what to do about my dash and other pieces in the car, should I fiberglass them or paint them. Im from maine and I heard the fiberglass will shrink and expand with the temp. anyone have any sugestions on what I should do?

It won't shrink and expand. Once it's set it's set, unless up in Maine it gets hot enough in your car to melt the epoxy, which I doubt.

So, I would say just paint them, because making the molds of your dash pieces will take a while and won't be worth it.

It will only shrink/expand during the curing of the resin. Don't mix the resin too hot.

I'm doing the same for my Dodge Dakota.  The truck is red and the inside is dark blue plastic.  It's nasty.  I don't know what Dodge was thinking but I know they are color blind.  I'm going to basically copy the Alpine Acura RSX for the dashboard technique.

https://www.alpine-usa.com/  Go to support and then demo cars.

For the door panels, I may copy their technique or I may take my plastic panels and put them upside down.  Then pour Eurethane foam into them to make a mold.  Then take the hard foam out and sculp it to look the way I want on the front side.  Then glass over the sculpted foam to make my new glass panels.  I'm going to do a few layers of mat and resin and a layer of Maraglass on top.  Then Rage Gold filler, sand, primer, paint, and clear coat.

Yeah my car is white with grey and a tanish color interior. Thanks everyone for the help. I will probably just end up painting everything and making a fiberglass encloser thats molded to the trunk.

the fg doesn't nessisarily shrink and expand so much that it will crack, but the vynal underneath can expand enought to crack paint, so i've heard, i think if you make sure and make it thicker then just a layer or to you will be fine, it's a lot better to fiberglass over a harder serface, if you can get your dash down to a mettal or plasic, like stripping the padding and everything off of it, that would be a better idea, if it's not that much of a pain in the ass..

and i guess i kinda misread your ?, i wouldn't just paint on soft serfaces either, it's very easy to flake the paint off, i'd FG if you have the time, you'll get a better look, and if you rage gold or bondo or whatever on something that's padded like most dashes are, then it will crack if it gets kicked / bumped or anything like that, bondo isn't THAT strong.... i dont' think, haha, but what do i know....

for the best results that's what i'd do, it's a big pain in the ass i know, but then you are GARENTEED not to have it crack or look like sh*t, i'm sure there are a million other ways to do it, but i'm always one to go for the most effective route. you might beable to go over vinyl or whatever if you just do a few layers to make sure it's strong, but i'm not sure, you risk it getting cracked somehow eventually
