I was planning on making a center console for a buddy of mine and I was planning on carpeting it. Would it be better off just stretching the carpet tight and stapling it or put some spray adhesive on the box and then pull it tight. Or is there another technique?

both, spray adhesive on the console,  and then stretch the carpet around and staple it on the back

3M makes a great adhesive called Super 77 that I use to carpet a box when I build one. It comes in a black can. I have tried several cheaper sprays, but it works best.

Actually when it comes to glueing, spray both the carpet and the console, let the glue tack up (at least 5 minutes), then apply the carpet to the center console.

If you get any of that glue on yourself, careful where you put your hand.
