Is there a way to make the neons fade out when the door closes? My dome light will fade out after a few seconds when the door shuts, could I tap into that and run off it? or could I also put an inline capacitor on the neon so that when it is powered down the power slowy drains away, making it fade?

I'm almost positive that it is bad for the neons to make then fade in and out.

BUT if you want to take a chance just put a capacitor in serries with the power wire of the neon. you just have to play with the size of the cap so that you get the right timming effect.

cool, I was hoping my cap idea would work :)

anyone know of any dangers of doing this? it wont be fading in and out like a flasher but just gently fade out when shutoff

As far as I know you can't fade neon either the transformer is on or it's off. There are fading neons available, but those are made to fade in and out..

Yeah. Neons require a transformer, which either has full amp/voltage to light up, or not enough, meaning no neon. Sorry. You could keep neons on fully until dome shuts off, but I don't think you could make them fade.

I connected mine up to my interior lights . When i unlock the car or open the doors, they come on and then fade out after a couple of seconds after i start the car,  just like the original interior lights. I have 8 of them hooked up and it's a great effect, and no problems as of yet.

cool, how did you wire it up and what kind of neons? It sounds like you just hardwired them to the dome light or something

exactly, I have the ultra bright neons by redline and just hardwired pos to pos and neg to neg of the interior lights.
