Well they have outdone themselves again this year and again won the top award at the CES.  If you want to know how to do just about anything fiberglass to a vehicle, check out the new X5 demo car at https://www.alpine1.com

Having that kind of money doesnt hurt much either. I agree that their projects are just phenomonal, but it just doesnt impress me that they can do that.   When I see someone like us doing that kind of stuff thats what impresses me. Somebody that doesnt have 500 grand to spend on a mini cooper.

I dont think that they can top their mini cooper. The mini cooper is way better than X5 that they did. IMO.

Im still in love with the civic.  I got to see the Acura RSX in person and sit in it and stuff, seeing it in person is just amazeing, ,trying to look at it it feels like you just ate a bag of mushrooms, ,you simply cannot focus, the art work is way too detailed on top of the very detailed fiberglass work.

Yes the Civic and RSX are also very cool. Ok I guess it is safe to say that Alpine fell off with the X5. You cant make something as pwoerful as the Civic, RSX, or Mini Cooper and then follow it up with the X5. IMO.

The civic was awesome, the mini was cool, and the x5 is boring compared to both the other's (but it is still the only one I would even consider driving). You can only do the same things in different cars so many times. The extravagent fiberglass work gets old, center drive gets old, and vehicles that have no practical application is getting old. Don't get me wrong but Alpine's demo vehicles are getting predictable.

What ever happened to really good installs in a vehicle that you could actually drive? Personally I am getting annoyed with many manufacturer's demo vehicles. I mean mix in some suede, leather, or even vinyl(center channel of the x5 excluded). Paint and full fiberglass vehicles look like crap.

I understand the concept of a demo vehicle. But why can't manufacturer's concentrate on how thier products perform instead of how they look and what kind of install they can do. They make the gear, not install it. I am much more impressed by the cars that sound awesome and appear to be mostly stock looking.

I agree that Alpine's and most other companies demo cars are getting played out. Sure there cool, but like auex said, how many times can you do the same things? There is a local car that is owned by a restaraunt. If I can get a pic of it, I want you guys to see it. It has little to nothing to do with audio, but whoever built this thing is a FG geneus.

I think the vehicles are cool just to show people what is possible if you have an infinite amound of time and money and to inspire people.  Then you can take the ideas and apply whatever time and budget you have to do your own projects.

I wonder if these guys ever take a break from fabricateing?  Like im shure as soon as the mini was done, they took there pictures with it, then the X5 drove in and the process started over again.

Sure, its called painting and assembly. They also do car shows. I am also sure that these vehicles don't take anywhere near a year to complete, at least that the vehicle needs to be worked on constantly. I am sure that doing this stuff is second nature to Steve Brown and Mike Vu.

What could you do with infinite resources, time, and staff?

I think the X5 took 7 or 8 months.
manufacturers doing cars that arent as flashy, well it is for shock value and the attention and press that the cars get. lemme ask you this, what car did orion have at CES........or what was in the audiobahn booth. most people will never know because it wasnt the show stopper that the X5 was. a lot of the cars in other booths are not owned by the car audio company. they are sponsored or private owner vehicles.

i also thought it was kinda funny that a lot of people on here said that they would rather have a car that sounded good. well, if you build the entire interior around the audio system, you have complete control over where things are placed, the sound stage and a lot of other factors.

everyone that i know that listeded to the X5 said that it was by far the best sounding car at the show and also the best sounding car that alpine has done in a looooong time. the closest one being steve's bmw.
if you are gonna sreiously redo a carfor audio, you will do things like remakt the dash, doors, and change materials in the interior to alter reflections. all of those things were done in the X5. look at cars that do very well in the competition lanes. all of them have redone dashes, different doors, wierd sub placement. all of these are done for sound just like the X5.

the difference in the cars that compete and the cars at shows like CES are usually due to the need for advertising and to get people talking. there are also other cars like the JL mini that sound really good and take a different path as far as the install goes. they did a very classy car, everything in it was for a purpose and it took them a long time to do. but not that many people talked about it. and it didnt get the amount of press that the alpine cars get. it is all in how you want to spend your dollars and what you are trying to get from the car you are building.

building cars for a manufacturer is quite a bit different from a shop building a car, even their shop demo car.

Yep, the Alpnie X5 was built for sound but they were able to add in all those other cool features.  I bet it sounds far better than any car I've ever heard.  I'm sure lots of pros could build something similar with that much time or money, but I give them props for doing such cool work.

I got to not only see the X5 but also to get in it and hear and control it earlier this month in Louisville.  First of all they made us take our shoes off which made alot of sense and if you were a person on any height good luck fitting in the back seat without getting smashed by the front seat coming across you.  It was by far the best SOUNDING car I have heard from alpine.  Keep in mind it had a 6.1 audio set up complete with front center and rear center channel speakers.  A blue man group song was one of the tracks that I got to hear and it was definatley exilerating.  I don't know if it was the best sounding car I have ever heard going to Iasca finals and listening to some of the cars there.  But it was definately extreamly clear even at the quite loud output the volume was on.  I know if was fairly plain compared to the mini and the civic but I just thought that made it look classy.  I talked to steve and it took a little over 6 months I believe, if I remember right.  If you have a chance to listen to it I highly encouage it.  Whether your an Alpine fan or not, it's definatly something to check out.
