Hi guys,

I have been reading all of your guys' posts for a couple of months now. This is my first post. After reading your tips I decided to try to build a custom quasi-fiberglass console for my '84 T-Bird (yeah yeah I know... an '84 T-Bird). Any way, I've gotten off to a decent start. I built the general shape out of MDF, then covered it with fleece to get the lines and shape I wanted. Next, I smeared long-strand bondo-glass in the areas that I wanted to build up. Then ground it down. I molded the original plastic switch panel into the console. I was unable to relocate my A/C controls because they are old school and use a cable to open the damper on the heat. NOW Finally to my question. What would be the best way to attach my console to the factory plastic and mold them together? I cut the plastic bezel around the A/C conrols b/c it also houses all of my idiot lights and I would like to keep those. So I need to know how to mold the two together. Also, does anyone know any good techniques on how to paint a faux wood grain look? Thank you all

I think I read something like this before but that person just took the fiberglass and ran it over the plastic o blend it in then sanded and painted it with interior colors.

I think I know what your talking about...Maybe just use the kitty hair to mold them? You got some pictures so we can get a better idea? For the woodgrain, you can buy vinyl woodgrain stickers. I've also seen Martha Stewart use some sort of wood grain roller. Check out arts and craft stores.

I guess I should have said in my first post that I tried the fiberglass bondo once and the darn thing cracked. Anyway, I am going to try to post some pics so bare with me this is my first time posting pics. I hope it works
