I just got a pair of rockford punch hx2 12" subs with a 7502 amp for $250, but am waiting to get my new truck to put them in. I was wondering if anyone has built a ported box that sounded good with hx2's for some suggestions. The truck is gonna be a 2003 nissan frontier king cab. I was looking at the Q logic boxes, but thinking more toward building my own. Any suggestions or pictures of previous boxes built for hx2's would be appreciated.

well, im no expert in this field and if you want a little better advie from a much more xperienced crowd i would re-post this in the audio part of the forum. Anyways, from what ive picked up, the box is KEY in how well you want your subs to perform. Are you looking for high SPL or good SQ? Well if you looking for good SQ you dont want a ported box because just about everything outside the tuned frequency sounds pretty crappy, so id go sealed. If you do want high spl then go ported. I have the rockford he2's and in MY manual it gives all the specs (cu. ft for box, dimensions, port length etc>) So just take these specs to mind a create it yourself.! Your not likely to find a Q box made EXACTLY to the specs of your two subs (if you do get it!!!)

my sugestion is that you messure the truck  maximum space you have avalible for the box. then download "winISD" google search. input the speaker parameters and start tweaking. in the software build 2 boxes a sealed and a ported and look at the freq responce and desibels and spl parameters, then compare them both and select the one you prefer. if you dont know how to do it,learn or pay some one to do it for you. using already made boxes is ok, if you dont know how to do it your self. if you do! build the box, your system will most likely sound better, but ill depend on you on how it looks, lol.

you can build a preaty responsive seald box as well as ported, if build properly the ported box should not sound like crap out side the tuned frequency like 95Pony stated, it will only play at a lower DB level or spl at the other frequencies. quality should remain the same. but its all dependent on the speaker specs and how well design the box is,on how its going to performe.

good luck

Well, from my experience if your listening to music like Hard Rock or just general rock and roll type music or anything other than music thats not concentrated on just bass, ported boxes seem to be muddier and dont sounds as good. Just my two cents... and others (ie. my local audio store)

well i listen to both hip-hop and rock and there is not one person that dont like the way my system sounds. it hits hard and fast and the low freq responce is very good. like i sayed speaker selection and a well design enclosure.

both boxes are good! the difrence is in the frequency responce. with a seald box, the only way you have, to tune the box ,is by changin the size of the box with the vented you have the port to help fine tune the box!

i like sealed boxe for the flexibility and sound, if you take your time and design one, and do it right they can sound any way you what to.

edit: i ment to say i like vented enclosures for the flexibility and sound, if you take your time and design one right, they can sound any way you want to.

I would for sure go with a ported enclosure. Those subs are about as effecient as a bigblock chevelle. They need lots of power and the ported encl. really helps output.
