Hey everybody. I'm new to the site after finding it last night. I read a bit and found some helpful topics, mainly a lot of questions I have. I'm new to fiberglassing and haven't actuallyhad much time to work with it yet, going back to school after a few years is a pain. Anyway, couple questions: 1)anyone know of a site/book/cd that has a lot of helpful info for beginners? 2)what does the number on the top right of a gallon of resin mean: 402 403 404? aside from price? I assume it means level of hardness, but I couldn't find anything that specifically said that. 3)The different weights of fiberglass are obviously more effective for certain projects than others. I'm basically trying to make panels to fit over my existing panels in my truck to cutomize it a bit, so I know thinner fiberglass would be ok. However, my dad wants me to build him a center console for his truck, would the fiberglass mat you can buy at pep boys be ok for that? I also have some 24oz per sq foot. WOuld that be better suited? Any help you guys is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
There are a bunch of good DVDs out there, not sure which one is best. This site is a good start.
I have no idea what # your talking about but don't worry about it, if its fiberglass resin, it will work.
1 - 3 oz would be the easiest to work with for almost all of your projects. You can achieve the same strength with 1oz as you can with 24oz it just takes more layers. The heavy stuff can be a real PITA to work with.

This is a great site to show you the steps. I actually haven't started my projects yet, but I've done a ton of research. From what I've heard and can deduce on my own, the process isn't really hard, it just takes patience and you can't try to cut any steps. The more prep work and time you put into making the frame and laying the glass, the better it'll look and the less time you can take on the finishing stages. Good luck, and keep us posted with your progress!
