Hey guys I'm in the process of building a fiberglass enclouser. I've already resined the fleece and have one layer of fiberglass cloth on is. My question though is this....
I've gotten some rippling out of the cloth. I sanded it down and was wondering if I fill it with Kitty Hair or Bondo Hair (the fiberglass stuff thats mixed with cloth strains) will that be okay? Also could you just apply that stuff over all of the fiberglass enclouser and build it that way or is that stuff not strong enough?

Well, if you are making door panels or just some kind of structure, the Bondo with the fiberglass in it would be fine. But if you are making a sub enclosure it wouldnt be strong enough because of the intense pressure. If you put in some high power subs it would probably blow it apart. Lay that stuff AFTER you have your layers down. I am making a sub enclosure and so far have to full layers Heres a picture of it with ONLY resined fleece.

Yeah, I know. All it is is bondo filler with fiberglass strands in it im pretty sure. Not trying to contradict you or anything I just dont think that wood have anywhere NEAR the strength of polyester resin and mat.

You still need to put a couple layers of fiberglass mat down. Fillers are for finishing a box and should be used sparingly. They are a weak point in the finish. If you have a larger deeper area then use kitty hair or like product. If you are working on high and low spots (1/4 inch up or down) then go with bondo or like body filler.

dont use bondo to fill any inperfections in between layers of fiberglass. if you have too much of a low spot, brush on some resin till you get it level, then continue adding layers of glass, use bondo only as finishing agent, to smoth the surface down.

i think everyone's misunderstanding you. You want to use resin, but instead of using chopmat or weave, you want to use loose strands of fiberglass, that way it will fill better. That should work, just make sure that you put some more layers of chopmat or weave over it. Fiberglass is what gives strength, not resin.
