Can or has this been done?

Build an enclosure to contain a 20 pound sub and a component set of speakers and mount it to my rear doors.

The doors can swing out so the speakers would fire behind the van for tailgating.

The doors are opened 5-10 times in a normal day.

Has anyone done anything like this?

How would you mount the box to the door so it can take the pounding and look good?

Vehicle: 92 ford E-150 Conversion Van

Available area on lower rear doors is approx 24"h x 24"w x ?d. 10 inch depth would not be a problem.

I believe the subs need 1.6cf and 7.5" of depth.

Can it be done?, yes, has it been done?, yes.  What did they do to the door hinges? Not too certain but im thinking the bushings would have to be replaced yearly.

you could just put the comps on the doors and have the sub fixed inside the van, it'll have the same effect for tailgating, but without all the rediculous extra weight in the doors stressing the hinges and getting slammed open and shut, just a suggestion

Ever see the hinges on Camaro's and Firebirds that are 10+ years old....very sloppy from those long, heavy doors hanging with little support.
