bmw 318i center console

hay guys this is my first post spent hours looking over all the posts on here and iv decided i want to make a custom center console for my bmw but i havent got a clue where to start anyhow iv removed all the plastic stock console and took some pictures id love some ideah guys cheerz

What are you gonna install in your new centre console?
If i was you i would make a copy of your centre console and then build further on it.

yeah i was thinking along those lines, im thinking of adding a dvd unit the header unit type 2 component speakers either side a 6 disc multichanger and a ton of switches for neons etc looks like iv got a bit of fiber glassing to do ;)

First, Measure the distance between you seats (or the width of the original center console) then subtract 1 1/2 (2/3 thickness)to 1 (1/2 thickness) inch off of that depending on the thickness of the MDF that you are going to buy.

Second, make a design following your original center console along the floor, up to the original dash, and the height that you want (you might have to make one for each side)...you can use cardboard for this. transfer the template(s) on to pieces of MDF. This will be the sides of your new center console.

Next is your call, you can either nail gun down some flexible plywood for the top (A hell of a lot easier) or you can start you fiberglassing there.

If you use the flexible plywood you can just lay resin over the plywood, cut out all the holes for your head units and components, sand all edges smooth, test fit the console, then if it is to your liking prep it for paint.

If you want to FG the top, you need to hot glue all MDF rings and mounts for your HUs, then you need to staple gun down the fleece over it all, lay the resin and probably one to two coats of FG since you have no thump in the console, then you sand the hell out of that, apply a coat of rage gold (cause your curves just won't be the same after the FG) then sand the hell out of that, repeat that last step til it looks smooth enough, fill in all of the pinholes with spot glazing putty, sand, test fit the console, then if it is to your liking, prep it for paint.

If it were me I would go with the flexible plywood...looks the same but a hell of alot easier.
