Hi all- first post, longtime browser  Im looking for info on fabbing a bandpass out of fibreglass- the thing is loading the driver into the box- i wans going this route to tkeep the drivers out of sight, but it seems then that you cant get them in or out!
I tried the search- didnt see any posts on this...

Any thoughts?

Well dude if your talking about a band pass box like the square box with the plexi window, it would be easy to fiberglass it. Just build the box out of mdf. Leave the front panel out (the one that is normally plex) to load the sub through. Then either just scuff the plexi and paint it or if you are building the whole thing just make a panel out of mdf or a bunch of layers of glass, then seal it with caulk and screw it in place.

Nothing is impossible!

Im not talking about anythign square, or plexiglass windowed swapmeet stuff. I mean a custome fabbed bandpass enclosure without corners or seams...although i suppose there has to be a window or pane somewhere to allow for install and removal of the driver...

Im thinking along the lines of a custome box for the corner of the trunk that does not allow for access to the speaker- hence no holes are put in the driver, and it cant be seen my theives...

build the box in two parts. What I mean is build the part that the subs go into first and then lay foil on to the face of that and form the other hafe of the box using an MDF skeleton and glass over the whole thing. Then when done fasten it together with a gasket in between the two boxes. If you don't understand what I mean please ask me to clarify.

I understand completely what you mean, but then the issue becomes what to do when the drivers choke- youd have to cut them out, right?

any pics of anyones work?

this is not a simple kickpanel project, I understand....

I think the way he's talking about, instead sealing the box shut with FG, you'd make a gasket and screw the two pieces together.

The real problem I can see is the inability to accurately estimate the airspace prior to building. Bandpass boxes that aren't built correctly sound like total crap. If you want to take the time correcting then go for it and remember to build a little on the big side(airspace wise). This won't be a simple spare tire well enclosure.

LOL yeah- i realize fully that its gonna be a pain, but I m feeling ambitious

Thnas for the idea guys- thats exactly the way to do it- the reason im trying thisx is to fab a box that is part of the rear deck and is bandpass so that nobody can see any of the drivers. thus, once bolted in, its not getting stolen, nor will anyone be able to pop my drivers witha screwdriver in frustration when they cant get it out...

I will post the project once Ive sunk my teeth into it.

My idea would be build it in one part... with the front open to where you can get the sub in then get you a plexi window that will fit nicely to the contour of the opening, sand it, counter sink your screws silcone over then sand again, paint to match... just my idea

if you are worried about thieves seeing your drivers, one you should move from were ever it is you live, just kidding, but for real you sould maybe think about instead of doing a bandpass which sucks anyways and do a stealth style box.

i have a 4 door- no hatch and theres just not enough airspace in a false floor or wheelwell  to hold 4 dvc drivers.

I have seen ppl poke holes thru drivers that they couldnt steal.

so a bolted down box that hides the drivers is ideal

I hear what your saying about moving but truth is theives are everywhere. I live in a very nice area, where kids will travel to just because of the nice cars my neighbors own...

point of this project is that unless they take the whole car I wont lose my subs

Thanks for input guys- anyone wanna post up some pics of their setup>?

if you look at my forum post its 2nd fiberglass project that could give you some more Ideas.  I am getting ready to do some more boxes.  And I attached the box from the inside of the box so that thing is not going anywhere unless they take the car.  But A little story when I had my silverado My box was the center consoule and It took me to take the seats out to get everything in and I fastened it with off size bolts to the old bitch seat frame and to the floor and when all send and down if someone whats your stuff they will take that is just part of doing this.  They took out every thing and nicely cut my wires and unbolted the bolts and the space they had to work with just surprised me because they left the seats in.  but they got everything my amps and subs, capacitors, headunit, and six dish changer.  oh well insurance covered everything and I got all new stuff.
