Ok I am getting ready to build my first fiberglass enclosure.  I have read all the tutorials that are listed here but there are three questions that i am not sure of yet.

1.) When wrapping the enclosure with the fleece what is the trick to get the smooth rounded look.  I will try and post some pictures of what I am talking about if its not clear.

2.) The Enclosure is in a 99 mustang and it will have 2 12" woofers and two amps.  Any idea the quantity of resin that I will need to order

3.) Where is the best place to get the fiberglassing materials (i.e. a website, or a certain store).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your help

Matt

Good Luck, I've done glass once and it was fun, but takes a lot of work.  You can get fiber cloth or matt at Wal-mart for pretty cheap.  They don't have the big jugs of resin though, only the little 2 quart size, or at least at my local store.  So home depot had what i needed for the resin.  It was 24.99.   But there fiberglass was more expensive. stick with wal-mart for that and also your paint brushes and such. hope this helps

Go to a boat shop for fiberglass and/or resin.  Uscomposites.com is pretty good too.

for the smooth rounded look i'm guessing u mean where the fleece cruves from the MDF?  thats done by routering the edges of the MDF before hand.

I guess to be more descriptive i mean between the mdf ring and the base of the structure, wether it be the box or a board you will see a gentle concave curve....what is the best way to achieve that look.

With fleeceposted_image

Seriously though. Pull the fleece pretty tight and secure it on all sides. For securing it some recommend hot glue, I personally use whatever adhesives I have around(caulk/silicone).

Then just resin over that. The fleece should sag just a little bit, which will give it the curve you're talking about.

I'm at the "recovering from inhaling FG fumes" stage of my project.  That stuff's deadly!

Home Depot sells a gallon of resin for about $30 here, the boat shop charges $75.  Easy choice.  The whole box will take most of a gallon, if it's just the fleece maybe a quart or two.

Yeah Walmart can be a good place to get some fleece for a good price. You can also find resin at Auto Zone, and other major auto part stores. Post some pics!!!
