hey ive heard that if u put resin on cardbord it becomes just as strong and mdf but much lighter. dose anyone know if this is true?

uhhh...probly as strong as MDF thats as thin as cardboard. u could use it for some projects, but not a sub box or anything like that. i just cant see resined cardboard being as strong as MDF (plus u didnt specify what size MDF) but for the price of the amount of resin needed to soak into the cardboard i'd put up with the weight of the MDF.

Fiberglass itself is much stronger then MDF, but it is weaker in long flat sections.

i've use foil before to do a mold.. I haven't tried using a "cardboard".. what I think of it is its a waste of ur day or maybe 2 days juss to cure a thin layer, it really depends on the how thick the cardboard is, and to add to that, some parts of the cardboard will not soak-up real well.. which is like having major air bubbles in fiberglass lol. that will also cause it so break at some parts.

I don't know though, I have never tried to use it...
They say though that it should be used just as a re-enforcement to flat surfaces of fiberglass.
They also mention something about a "rope trick" but I've never used that one either.
Definatly for flat surfaces though I would suggest going with MDF (just for safe measures)

look in my project i used the cardboard in conjunctoin with fiberglass too.so the cardboard and fiberglass mix is just as strong as using MDF. I used 7 layers of glass with the card board

cardboard acts as a brace for the composite. You do not want to replace the speaker ring with cardboard, it defeats the purpose of the ring. But they do work great for reinforcing the 'glass panels.

I didn't use it for the speaker ring I used MDF I used the cardboard for my flat surfaces.
