Dude man that looks great. I dont think i've ever seen fiberglass that is that smooth right after it has been layed down. How did you keep it so smooth like that. What is your process?

Starts with the fleece...I stretch the hell out of it...as tight as i can get it. Spred some resin, while its still drying i lay some fiberglass and i rub it with my hands to smooth it out, then i had another layer of resin. Thats it...I got a question tho...How many layers do you use if the box passes the thumb test on its first layer of fiberglass?

Well if it passes on the first layer. I guess I'd do three to just be safe. Thats pretty awesome to pass it on the first layer, i've never heard of that.

Well that is a matter of opinion. In this case, It looks better to me not flushed.

Looks like a strong anchor. Nice and sturdy and should give off a nice bass tone. I myself like the flush Idea as well as my 4 10's are being flush mounted as we speak pretty much as well. Nice work. Hope it sounds as good as it looks.

Yes it is a matter of opinion, but you have to remembre that the MAIN reason for using fiberglass in the first place is to maximize air space and take a minimum of space(which in a TT is a premium).  On smaller cars I personally prefer to go with the fluch mounted look as it doesn't impede on trunk space.

Question for thread maker:  Did you use fiber weave for all layers?  I can tell at least the top layer was done in weave, but what about the rest?

Also, from those pictures you have a bit more sanding/bondo to do.  I can see a few gouges.  Note this only applies if you're going to paint it.  If you're going to carpet it then you're good to go

Don't do that. If you're going to respond say something useful. I didn't mean that post to be personal. I think I misspelled two whole words

I did end up useing fiber weave for all the layers. Also i had a whole lot more sanding, took for ever, then i had to spot putty a couple spots, more sanding, sprayed the primer, primer sealer, then got the paint on and clear coat. what ya think....for a first time fibergalass job?

Looking great!!! you did a hell of a job especially for your first time. MAYBE...just maybe (all a matter of personal taste) but did you try to buff the clear out a little more to provide a higher shine? Just a suggestion; still looks absolutely beautiful. How many layers of weave did you end up using? I read a post on here a little while ago that suggested using weave for the last few layers just to smooth out the surface a little to minimize sanding time. Would you say the same thing? I never tried it but after seeing yours in the final layer I'm thinking I might just go for it.

I just put clear coat on it, and buffed it. This is how she came out. You can see it has an ok shine, but i think i need to add 3-4 more layers.

I ended up useing 4 Layers, all with the weave. The sanding wasnt bad at all, i had a 6" soft disc sander on a electric drill. I did that with 9- git, moved up to 400 (i think), then 800. It took me about 4 hours to sand it smooth.

AWESOME job indeed. I can't wait to see it installed. I'm working on the second attempt at a FG enclosure for my Infinity 12 in my nissan maxima. I don't intend on painting it, but I hope the process the whole way is as smooth as yours looks to have been.

Good job and thanks for showing your work off. It made work today a little more enjoyable :)

He won't any usable trunk space once the enclosure is installed, right? Or he'll at least have some in front , back, and on either side. I built something like that for my last car and never installed it since it just didn't look right once in the trunk. it will sell on Ebay if he comes to the same conclusion I did.
