Alrighty

I have seen pics of systems involving subs where the opposite of a sealed box occurs. The front of the sub is mounted into an enclosure and the rear is left in the air. Are these free air subs? How does the sound/performance comapre to a similar spec. sub in a selaed enclosure. Is the enclosure im refering to know as the Infinite Baffle setup. I know lots about sealed enclosures but nuthing about these type. Why would you use this type of setup besides if u had a free air sub?

i can answer half of it, it still works the same as a normal sealed box just you don't have the displacement of the subs inside the box so you could gain a little more air space or make a box that much smaller for tighter area's, as for sounding different, i don't think it does but i've never really worked with them, i've done one that sounded pretty good, but we never tried the subs the other way to find out if there was any different sound.

WHat you're talking about is inverting the sub. SO that the motor structure is outsid ethe box. This makes no difference. Well, it makes a slight difference due to the increased air volume(sub not inside enclosure), which would change the sound a little bit, but not much.

This is not a TRUE infinite baffle(IB) setup. Note that by definition a sealed enclosure could be considered an IB. Normally for an IB the front and rear waves NEVER come in contact with each other. Example in a house: If you mounted a sub in the ceiling with the front firing into the room, and the back left open, this would be considered an IB.

To add to that: a sealed enclosure where the internal volume is greater than the Vas of the driver.

All in all looks nice. Those Xtant subs looked best too me. No trunk left in the Nissan. Not even a case of beer looked like it would fit. Pitty!!!
