I have a sealed box with two tens facing the backseat, I pulled the stock 8, it can breath but not enough. Will a bandpass box help solve this issue (bass is cut by at least 70% with trunk lid closed).   Thanks.

First of all what kind of 10's are you running and what size amp do you have pushing them?

Why do you ask if I ate paint chips when I was younger?

turn your box around also so the subs face the back of the car so when the trunk lid is closed it reverbs of the back of the car

Well I would, but the trunk space is nes.   so I am going to try a bandpass. They are Audiobahn AW1051T's with a tiny jensen 400w 4ch. They were in my TL and were pretty good.

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

Thanks for the advice, but the car is driven by somebody who feels the need to carelessly throw things in the trunk, of course it would be 2x louder, but the owner is a factor in this situation.

then flip it around and put grills over the subs so they dont get wrecked.

I don't think that would be enough protection, but I'll give it a shot
Thanks,

I agree to the ol' flip around. Part of the problem is the amp. Just not enough gonads to push the subs the way they were ment to be pushed. If this is a customer good luck. I worked in car audio sales/install for years and know how it is telling somebody they need to spend more to get there desired result.

Yeah, the amp is the problem, but I don't think that many people realize how well the trunk seals on the first gen. LS400. For example, the padding under the carpet in the car is like 3.5" thick and pretty firm. I am for sure putting another amp on it, but the pressure in the trunk won't allow the freq. ranges I desire unless I try another type of enclosure. I think.   Thanks, Dustin

a different type of box wont change the fact that the trunk doesnt filter the bass into the cabin, u might wanna see if u can vent the noise into the cabin, possibly by cutting holes in the rear deck and using speaker grills to cover the holes so it looks like extra speakers or something.

here's an easy one that may work.....reverse phase ya sub wiring. could make a difference in ya car....otherwise it's the sounddeadening route. Dynamat the rear shelf, maybe space invader or similar goo into the c-pillars. I have done that before. It is time consuming but well worth it.If done properly the sub should sound good regardless of whether boot is opened or closed. The customer I did it for didnt want his system to be heard outside, then was mad when he got the car back because little hatches sounded louder than his with 2 x 10's {but only on the outside of the vehicle}. I built custom enclosure using mdf and plexiglass with a KICKER L712 SOLOBARIC firing through the ski port. No rattles at all in the rear, tail lights, licence plate etc. Sounded awesome where it should..inside the vehicle.
