Hey guys, I'm beginning my first fiberglass project with my father. I've got a 2001 Ford Escape and I've got 2 Audiobahn 15" Subs in a plain box at the moment. My dad and I already bought the MDF from Home Depot. The design is fairly simple, a rectangular base, a rectangular back, and 2 curved sides with the 2 subs facing outward. We were wondering what the best kind of screw/nail/combo is best to go about attaching 2 pieces of MDF. Also what is best to use to support the sub rings?

I would definately go with screws over nails.  I would also use wood glue between joints of MDF.  As far as the sub rings, unless you are trying to support them permanently you can just use dowels to hold your shape and then once you fiberglass the enclosure you can remove them.  Just make sure that you really soak the resin into the wood rings through your mat.

I agree with the screws. I normally brad nail the wood into my desired shape first just to get an idea of an changes needed. Then I use liquid nails in the seams, and use 1 1/2" wood screws to finish it up. You can get wooden dowels from home depot; get a diamter less than that of your MDF and you can (if your skilled enough) drill notches for them to sit in. I do it that way all the time. Don't drill all the way through the wood though.

Oh, and just my opinion, but you should drill tiny holes (1/16th bit) through the wood first before putting the screws in; this will help prevent the wood from splitting.

Always pre drill ur screws with a small hole, MDF splits like u wudnt beleive.  I always use Liquid Nails to add extra strength and it does seal the join abit aswell.  Again just use dowel and then make sure that the fleece and matting sticks to the rings, otherwise the FG will loose its grip on the ring

You should also seal the MDF together. You can do this by pre drilling the holes for your screws and then put silicone along the edge of the MDF and screw it shut. THis way no air leaks out. You can also use resin on the MDF to make it smoother for paint.
