What's up all...

After finishing the  Durango center console, this project took a back seat for awhile.  Well the wife is getting on me to fix her car.  So here she goes.

Basically all I'm doing is creating molds of the door panel insert areas that will be smoothed and painted and affixed to that panel area some way.

I started be taping off the panel area and ran into the question of whether to just resin fleece or spray glue matt down and resin that.

After laying the fleece down I became worried that it wouldn't pop out after curing without being damaged due to it's lack of strength so I took the fleece off and used the matt.

I resined one panel up and that's where I stand now.  Tonight, hopefully it will be done curing and I'll be able to see if the panel is finishable or not.

Well I just got back after about 4 hours.

It worked perfectly.  Now on to the other 3.  Hopefully I can lay it down a bit smoother to ease the sanding process.

Hey the progress looks good so far, I think you made a good decision on using fiberglass instead of the fleece.

Try using the cloth next time to get a better surface.

I have cloth... I'll try it but was worried about air bubbles because I don't have a rubber roller right now.

Well I've been offline for quite awhile trying to get this 626 done on top of work, kids, and the Puerto Rican wife.

Check out the other thread I started on the body/fiberglass work I'm also doing to the 626.

The pictures are starting from the last one I posted until now.

Here's where I'm at... basically I'm almost done cutting/grinding down the panels for a rough fitment.  After this is done I'll apply bondo and start sanding to a smooth finish.

What's up all...

Just updated the 626 door panel progress thread so I'd though I'd post up another project I took on at the same time on the 626.

The 626 was in a fenderbender a couple of months ago.  I got the insurance check and went ahead and bought a fiberglass body kit for the vehicle.

(No offence to Ricers), but I didn't like the large air vents on either side of the front and rear bumpers.

Looking back, I should have never done what I did due to the amount of time it took.

Basically, I cut large holes on each side of each bumper to cut the air vents out.  Then the work began... trying to fab up the bumpers to look like there never was anything there.

I used about 4 layers of chop mat, then duraglass, regular bondo, tons and tons and tons of sanding and then filler primer.

I shaved off a few more things, de-dented the vehicle, wet sanded it down and it's now pretty much ready for paint.

Below are the progress pics...

The pictures at the bottom are what the panels used to look like.  I covered them in green tweed a long time ago.

They'll be  painted like the dash when I'm done.

Yea man... I have thought about it... but I've also thought about the work involved and also that the owner might not want the car for that much longer.

It'd look trick though.
