This weekend I am going to install a 7inch alpine tmx-r700 monitor in my 2001 honda civic . My question is where do I put the mouniting plate. The monitor does not come with one first of all. I did some research online and found two different ways of doing it. One way was to glue a piece of 3/4 inch plywood to the cars roof and screw the monitor to the plywood. The other way was to sandwhich a piece of plywood between the headliner and the monitor. I want to do it the right way with out putting holes in the cars roof.

Mount it to the headliner. If you want it to be secure you are probaly gonna have to use screws, just like if you wanted to mount a ceiling console.

I can't screw it directly to the headliner since the alpine monitor will have a gap betwwenn the monitor and the headliner.

I do not have a sunroof. There is a universal trim ring for it. The only one I can find is on ebay and is tan.

It may be tan, but you can modify it, paint it, use your imagination. If you scratch one up you can create some good stuff, but just don't do what my uncle does a lot and mickey mouse stuff. Make it look nice.

You could put it in with no base. The headliner area that you mount the monitor to would have to be perfectly flat. In my car the headliner is not perfectly flat.

If you don't want to put plywood in your headliner I would suggest you bend a peice of steel sheet metal in the shape you need to hold what you want. make sure you have at least a stip 1/2" on each end that will lay flat against the roof. Go to an Auto Body Supply House and get some "Panel Adhesive" and use that to glue the panel to your roof. These adhesives are replacing welding for body panels, so it extremely strong. Panels bonded properly with this stuff will tear before the glue joint fails. They are designed to be used with a special cartridge gun to dispense them, but you can get away with using a socket and extinsionsion to pushhh out onto a mixing board, use equal amounts and mix thoroughly lika a 2 part epoxy. you can buy this adhesive in anywhere from 1 minute to 2 hour working times. I hope this helps you out.
