This is an easy question. I normally mount amps and such to wood panels and enclosures. However, in my case today, I need to screw two amps directly to the metal floor of my truck. I never like to do this because in my head, I think those screws and holes are going to eventually rust.

So how do you securely mount components to the metal floor? If you do use sheet metal screws, do you treat the area with something like silicone, or use specially coated screws? What is your technique? Or am I overly paranoid?

Thanks!

Derek

I wouldn't do that because can't you get feedback doing that. Why can't you use a board.

I assume you mean a grounding issue and ground loops?

The amps are going under a rear seat, and there is barely enough room height wise. I wanted to maximize air circulation, so directly to the floor would give me that....

You should mount the amp to something nonconductive, the metal floor won't work.

i've never done this with an amp but whenever i need electrical isolation and height is limited i'll use a plexi-glass (acrylic sheet) spacer. perhaps this would work.

I use mdf cover it with carpet screw it to the floor and then screw the aps to it .Then go under the car cut off the excess screw then silicone it for water protection.

Why not just insulate the screws with small grommets?

Ok - so far the consensus seems to NOT screw it directly to the metal floor. Use a board or plexi. I figure I will need some super short screws though. Or, I can put bolts coming up through the board so it lies flat, then bolt the amp to the studs. Then screw down the board to the metal floor I suppose.

But the no-metal-to-metal contact thing is a good tip. Thanks.
