Ok, I am very new to all of this. I was reading on the Polk website about their new show car the WRX. Everything is wraped in Carbon Fiber. Call me an idiot but what does that mean? Are they wraping the parts, like the dash in CF tape? or actually laying the CF mat on the parts?

Sorry if this is stupid.

I'd imagine they are making CF overlays of the existing parts with CF cloth.

You would need the CF cloth (which is gonna be expensive because their are major sortages right now because the military is using most of the supply right now) and resin. Doing CF overlays all by hand is very time consuming.

go to www.fiberglast.com (they also sell all the supplies needed) and look around on there and on their message boards. Lots of useful information and tutorials on that site on how to do CF overlays. Good luck.

generally when it is wrapped they mean that they have applied a layer of CF directly to the piece in question, this is often done as a vacuum bag project where the piece of car is sprayed with resin and a resin soaked piece of CF is layed over it and then after it is straightened out it is put in a vacuum bag and all the excess resin is drawn out VIA squeezing the crap out of it..

you will also need to buy clear resin..none of the bondo brand crap...and UV protective resin too...

Wrapping in carbon fiber is pretty much a stupid move. All you are doing is adding wieght. Unless you are completely making new parts out of carbon fiber to replace the old ones it's pointless. Unless you are just going for looks. Carbon fiber is a very light material, but resin is heavy, and it doesn't matter how light the material is, you are still ADDING it to your cars wieght.
