Hey guys, new here and to box building. Anyway, what im going to build is a console for my 03 dodge ram w/ MDF. im going to put a plexiglass window showing my amp. I want the MDF and the plexi to sit flush...how do i do that? Also, how thick of plexi should i get?...like i said, its only going to be a window for 1 amp. Thanks!!

Set up a plunge router with about a 3/8" straight cut bit.  Set the plunge depth to the thickness of the plexi..in this case where it's just a cover for the amp, 1/8" thickness will do.  Set up a straight edge guide to run the router against to get a straight mortise cut along the edges of the cutout.  If you're going to carpet the MDF, do a test to find out how deep to set the router.  The thicker gray line in the pic shows where the carpet would terminate.  Set the plexi in the cutout with clear acrylic caulk.  Don't panic when you see the caulk come out white, it cures to clear.  Or of course you could just set the plexi in without any glue at all unless you need it.

Make sure you're not completely enclosing that amplifier.  It needs airflow.

Sounds pretty easy...will the caulk be real noticable tho? Im going to cover it in vinyl the same color as my seats are now.

It'll be clear.  Place a thin bead in the corner all the way around and you probably won't know it's there.  This is what the tube looks like.  Oh yeah, and you'll probably want to paint the mortice and exposed parts of the MDF under the plexiglass to match the vinyl.
