I am working on an addition to my center console in fiberglass. I need to install some cubbies and cupholders that I already have, they are plastic parts.

My question is, how do I transition from fiberglass surface to a pre made part and have it not interfere with the part?

I was thinking maybe FG a support in underneath the cupholder, for example, keeping the 'glass as close to the part as possible, then just filling in around the cupholder with bondo to hide the "seam".

Am I on the right path? Or is there a better way?

Tape up the plastic part that you are trying to transition into with painters tape and firmly attach the part that you want to fabricate. Now depending on the gap that you have you can either use short strand fiberglass ( AKA Kitty Hair ) and apply this onto the seam to fill in the gap. Once it's almost dry sand with 36 grit sand paper & shape it until it feathers into the plastic part. Repeat this process with body filler until you get the desired seam you want.
