I am building a center conole that has a growing collection of electronics involved.  In order to remove it, I have to un-do several wires, it's kind of a pain.

Does someone make custom plugs I could install so I can simply unplug the console?  I think I'd need somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-7 wires...

molex connectors are great but if you dont have the crimp tools @ $200+ is this the way he should go for a one time thing?

Hmm, could one of those ribbon cables from inside a PC handle the power?  I could double up some of the wires, there are lot's of wires in those ribbons.

Do you want to perform a custom solution yourself or have a company or electronics shop  make something custom?  If you are doing it yourself, I would simply go down to Radio Shack, or another electrical connector supplier and look through the catalogs to see what would suite you.

If you want something custom made, here are a few links from a google search "custom wire connectors"

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

From 2 - 15 wires..

A cheaper, easier option would be to buy a radio harness with the corresponding OEM harness and solder on to those..

For example a 70-1858 and a 71-1858 GM female and male plugs.

Good ideas guys!

I am searching PayPal shops and eBay for Molex connectors, they look to be just what I was hoping to find!

I would keep it simple, stick with a Molex 9 or 12 pin plug set such as this one.posted_image

These pins can accomodate 14 ga. wires.  They (Molex.com) claim 5 and up to 12 Amps per pin depending on which of this type of connector you want.  If you dont have a crimping tool, bend the tabs and solder the wire into the pin, its better anyway.  Side note, these can be robbed off of a defunct Trane Heat and A/C Control board complete with its wire harness.  Dont ask.

RadioShack.com has this one available for $2.39 for the female side.

......and the male for the same price....

I'll go to my local Radio Shack tomorrow and see if I get lucky, maybe they'll have something in stock.  After looking into the Molex plugs, they are just what I am looking for.
